MY CANCER STORY
In June 1998 1 began having several symptoms, one of which was having no energy.
I didn't want to work at all. I was also having some slight abdominal pains.
I didn't think too much about it at that time, just thought it was the heat,
or that I was burning out. We had been working 60 hours per week for six
months at an altitude of over 5,000 feet above sea level, which alone would
have made it hard enough. I remember telling a co-worker, my journeyman,
that l just didn't feel like working. I felt really tired.
Around June 26th I went to a doctor in Colorado for a check up. He ran some
tests, including x-rays, blood and urine, etc. He did not know what was causing
my problems and wanted to do a CT scan, but due to my insurance being in another
state I decided to go home to my doctor. My doctor had more tests done and put
me in the hospital for a CT scan. After blood tests, the markers did indicate
cancer but this test was not considered positive confirmation. A biopsy was
done and between the CT scan and the biopsy, it was confirmed that I had
Stage IV lymphoma.
While in the hospital, some friends from church came by to see me. They gave
me a letter telling the story of a man in a nearby town who had cancer. After
all that could be done with the traditional treatments, he was sent home to
die. His wife, after reading ‘A Cancer Battle Plan' by Anne Frahm (who was
also sent home to die) I went to a health food store and bought vitamins,
minerals and herbs. Her husband took them in extremely high doses and in a
short time showed improvement in his tumor. He was eventually cancer free.
My oncologist said surgery was no option for me because of the location of the
tumor mass. This turned out to be a blessing as the surgery would have killed me
since the mass was so close to the aorta. He said the only treatment was
chemotherapy, and recommended six treatments to be administered, 1 every 3 weeks.
He Said the first should kill between 50-80% of the cancer. Since I still knew
nothing of nutrition, I, like many did go ahead and take the prescribed chemo
treatments.
After I was discharged from the hospital my father and mother took me to
a health food store to purchase the items we had read about in our friend's
letter. Since I was so weak, my father did all the talking for me to the
owner of the store for those items plus others that the owner knew were strong
cancer fighters. He also bought books that led me to finding out about
natural, nutritional health.
For some reason I started trying to eat better immediately, just because
something in my inner being told me I needed to do so. In the early stages
of my new healthy lifestyle, and during the chemotherapy, I did take all the
vitamins, minerals and herbs in high dosages that had been recommended.
Unlike many people, I did great during the treatments. I felt good (great,
even), looked much better, ate good, drank good, never got sick from the
chemo. I believe all those supplements are responsible for me doing so much
better during the treatments, but they did not cure me. When I first started
going to the doctor, after several visits, I commented to him that I had
started eating better, eating more fruits and vegetables. His answer was
a joke about fruits and then just laughed it off with his nurse. Now after
the third treatment he had another CT done and the result showed a very
slight shrinkage in the mass, but not as much as the 50-80% he (and we)
had hoped for. This was discouraging and scared me pretty good. He
continued with the balance of the treatments.
Somewhere in this time period I had talked to enough people and read enough
literature to believe that I needed to add juicing to the vitamins, minerals
and herbs I was taking. Another health food store owner told me about alternative
treatments and health through healthy immune systems. He sold me a juicer and
I bought organic carrots and other vegetables. The purpose of the organic foods
is to get the chemicals out of the body. I did this for about three months until
the last treatment, then had a second CT scan. The radiologist's report showed
no shrinkage of the tumor at all. After all the treatments, the chemo did not
kill 50-80% of the mass. I must be truthful and say that the doctor never
guaranteed anything.
The doctor now prescribed high dose chemo and bone marrow stem cell transplant
at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. Now from the time of the last
treatment to the report date at M. D. Anderson, I had learned about
Barleygreen and had received tapes and videos of different people who
had cancer and had great results for many years. I bought my first small jar
of Barleygreen and took it. Then I bought the 10.5 ounce jar. One of the
cassette tapes I listened to was Janet Pauly's testimony. I got her phone
number and in a lengthy conversation, she told me her story again and asked
me some questions. She found out I was borrowing money to live on and had
thoughts of selling my home in order to live while in recovery. She said
she was sending me a case of Barleygreen. Out of the goodness of her heart,
she sent me a case of the 10.5 ounce jars of Barleygreen, two videos by
Dr. Lorraine Day and another cassette tape. Before she hung up, she said
if I needed another case of Barleygreen to call and she would send it to
me.
I began taking 8 tablespoons of Barleygreen a day. Each serving was 2
tablespoons of Barleygreen and 32 ounces of water. I took two tablespoons at
7 a.m., two at 12:00 noon, two at 4 p.m. and two at bedtime. I also drank
about a gallon of carrot juice and other vegetable juices along with the
Barleygreen. It is my belief that this caused the death of my cancer during
the six to eight weeks from the time I started taking Barleygreen till
I had the Gallium scan at M. D. Anderson. At M. D. Anderson tests were
performed over a 3 day period. After the tests were completed, I saw
the final doctor who told me he did not know if I had cancer. He wanted
me to go back to my doctor in Shreveport and have another biopsy and have
the result sent back to: him. He seemed to indicate that he believed there
was no cancer or it was no longer malignant or was possibly dead. He would
not commit himself to say I was cured or cancer free.
In Shreveport I went to my oncologist and he sent me to the surgeon for the
biopsy. The surgeon told me he would have to perform major surgery to get a
new biopsy and he didn't want to do that. We decided he needed to see all of
the films from all the hospitals where x-rays, CT's and Gallium Scans were
performed. He then had the radiologist read them to me. He told me the tumor
was no longer malignant and had shrunk some more. After reading or hearing
the results, all the doctors involved said I should wait and watch it for
awhile. When I went back and told my oncologist, he said okay. He set up
another CT Scan in two months. This one showed more shrinkage in the tumor,
scar tissue etc.
In my opinion, the doctor never did act really impressed with my improvement.
I believe he really couldn't believe this had happened, since he had sent me
to M. D. Anderson for additional treatments of high dose chemo and bone marrow
stem cell transplant. I never did tell him about Barleygreen.
From that CT to the next CT done in July, 1999, my diet continued to consist
of fruits, juicing vegetables and drinking Barleygreen. I still took 8
tablespoons daily. That CT scan showed no significant change in the area
of the mass, which the doctor said was a very good sign. He said it was probably
scar tissue from the mass. From a 5 pound tumor to the size of nearly nothing
in a matter of weeks is proof enough for me that Barleygreen is is very powerful. I also believe that juicing
and a vegetarian diet is vital. I still take my vitamins and supplements.
I am not secure in my mind at this time whether or not I should continue to
take them. The films and some of the people I talk to say yes, and some
say no. It's hard to know what to do when you're waiting for your next CT
check up.
From the time I became a vegetarian until now, I have never had as much
energy as I have now at the age of 55. I have also lost close to 30 pounds
from the vegetarian diet. I can remember long before I was sick, I was always
tired and run down. All I ever wanted to do was sit and do nothing. Today, even
after six months of chemo and having to work it out of my system, I have
an abundance of energy. I work 10 hours a day, 5 to 6 days a week. I come
home and still have plenty of energy. It is unbelievable. I probably wouldn't
have believed it myself if it had not happened to me, but it is true. So now
I can say with Dr. Lorraine Day, "Cancer Doesn't Scare Me Any More."
Now I have a little something to say about some doctors and insurance
companies. I am a firm believer that some doctors really do not care if their
patients get well. The longer they can keep them coming in, the more money
they make. I am not sure how the insurance companies get richer paying out
lots of money, but they do. My insurance company told me my high dose chemo
and bone marrow stem cell transplant could cost up to $500,000 and is 100%
covered.
On November 12, 1999 1 had the last CT scan. It showed no mass, no shadows
covering any of my organs that had been previously shadowed over, not even
scar tissue showed up in this scan. All organs are now 100% visible. I believe
I will now take myself out of my doctor's care.
Dear Reader,
This testimony represents a personal story and how this person overcame cancer
through dietary changes. The specific methods they used do not represent a solution
for all, every individual is different. The amounts of nutritional products
indicated represent what they took, they are listed for educational purposes only
and not a recommendation for treatment.
